(English) per se
"by himself/herself/itself" "on his/her own"
Per se means intrinsically or belonging to the essential nature of a thing.
"I'm not a cat owner per se, but several neighbourhood cats visit me and I always feed them and welcome them into my home."
"Sherloc will not be searching for life per se--only for the trail it leaves behind."
You could probably roughly substitute the words "as such" or "exactly" in most sentences for per se.
